Coronavirus: Catalonia to shut bars and restaurants as Europe prepares to batten down the hatches

14/10/2020 - 16:39

Northern Ireland and Catalonia were the latest European regions to impose tougher restrictions on Wednesday in an attempt to curb rising coronavirus cases, announce Euro News.

Measures announced in the morning in Northern Ireland are similar to those seen during the first peak of the pandemic in March and will come into effect on Friday. They include closures of the hospitality sector — except for takeaways and deliveries — and further strict restrictions on social contact.

First Minister Arlene Foster told lawmakers that the executive "fully appreciate that this will be difficult and worrying news for a lot of people," adding: "We do not take this step lightly."
